We’ve got a blog! Yes, WKU FCA has a blog! I’m so excited that we are tapping into a new world of content and engagement on the campus of Western Kentucky University.
Why did we decide to do a blog? Let’s face it—millennials are always looking at a screen, whether it’s their phone, computer or other devices. Social media consumes this generation’s time like no other generation. I, too, am technically a millennial. I’m on the older end of the spectrum (80’s baby!), albeit, I’m STILL a millennial. So, I can relate to the constant urge to click, swipe and scroll.
While we millennials have immersed ourselves with this age of so-called connectivity, we still need to connect on a deeper level into who we are. What makes us tick. What our individual purposes are. Why we are here. Who JESUS is. Why we need to be saved in the first place. Herein lies the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Through the avenue of FCA, our vision is to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. Although FCA uses the highly influential platform of sports to reach the world for Christ, ALL are welcome to join, whether athlete or not. FCA is special because, through this ministry, we are able to witness to people who would otherwise not attend church or learn about God in conventional ways. And even if they have attended church all their lives, perhaps they encounter Jesus at an FCA Huddle or FCA Bible Study.
Millennials are not conventional by any means. At WKU FCA we realize that. We realize that maybe we should use as many mediums and resources as possible to WIN the lost, MATURE in Christ, and MULTIPLY through discipleship (our Purpose). It’s putting the concept “meet them where they are” into action. Hence, The WKU FCA Blog, “Light of The Hill” has been birthed.
The title, “Light of The Hill” is based on Matthew 5:14-16. As I was thinking of a blog title, I kept thinking about the fact that we are Hilltoppers! Immediately, Matthew 5:14 came to mind:
As Christians, we are the light on this campus and we are called to do as the passage continues to say: “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). This is what it’s all about! This is the heart behind “The Light of The Hill”.
Whether you regularly attend FCA Huddle on campus or not, we want to engage our WKU students in all the ways that God has enabled us. God has placed the passion to do this blog in both mine and Wayne’s hearts, and we look forward to sharing with you our stories and God’s truth in a fresh new way. Our blog posts will consist of testimonies, videos, interviews, recaps of huddle, and what we like to call “Bible Rabbit Chasing”. You’ll learn more about that in weeks to come, so stay tuned!
